ICANN 63 Readout Session – 28 November 2018
Contractual Compliance Istanbul team participated at ICANN org readout session in Istanbul and presented Compliance Program Update from ICANN 63. The session was hosted by the IT Law Institute of Bilgi University; about 50 participants, mostly students and young professionals participated in the event. This is the first "physical" readout session held in the Middle East and in Turkey. Readout sessions are held in all regions following each ICANN Public Meeting. These readout sessions contribute to the ongoing engagement efforts and enable broader regional participation in ICANN. ICANN's Global Stakeholder Engagement team, often in partnership with stakeholders in the region, host these events and use the platform to summarize the relevant topics and discussions that took place during the ICANN Public Meeting.
Nordic Outreach – 21 November 2018
Contractual Compliance Istanbul team conducted Registrar Training for Nordic Registrars and Resellers in Stockholm, Sweden in partnership with Global Domains Division and Global Stakeholder Engagement teams. Topics presented included Enforcing Temporary Specification, Abuse, Uniform Domain Dispute Resolution (UDRP), Transfer Policy and about ICANN's Contractual Compliance Approach and Process.
Contractual Compliance Registry Audit Outreach Sessions – November 2018
ICANN launched a DNS infrastructure abuse-focused audit for about 1200 gTLDs and held two audit webinars (recordings for 1st webinar and 2nd webinar) with the registries to address their questions and concerns. Some of these concerns were also raised in a recent email from the Registry Stakeholder Group and addressed by Contractual Compliance. For the first time, and to help prepare for the upcoming audit, Contractual Compliance sent the auditees the complete list of gTLDs that are included in the audit, and a pro-forma list of questions and data requests that will be included in the November 2018 Registry Audit round. ICANN's 63rd International Meeting in Spain, 20 – 25 October 2018
The Contractual Compliance team attended ICANN's 63rd Annual General Meeting in Barcelona, Spain, 20 – 25 October 2018.
On Monday, the team held a closed session with the Registrars [PDF, 27 MB] for discussion on compliance related matters with a focus on Temporary Specification. On Wednesday, the team provided a Contractual Compliance Program Update [PDF, 22.8 MB] to the community with a focus on addressing the questions and discussions from the attendees. The team also joined the Registry Stakeholder Group on Tuesday and again on Thursday at the Registry Operator Round table to address their questions on compliance related matters and specifically on the upcoming DNS Infrastructure Abuse Audit.
In addition, the team attended the different Cross-Community and High Interest sessions, the Generic Name Supporting Organization(GNSO) sessions, the Government Advisory Committee sessions, the board meetings with the stakeholders and the different working group and review team sessions. The team also held meetings throughout the week with different ICANN community members, including contracted parties based on request.

Korea Outreach – 30 August 2018
Contractual Compliance completed an outreach [PDF, 1.21 MB] visit in Seoul, South Korea in partnership with the Global Domains Division team. This visit was organized by Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), and 10 representatives from 6 ICANN-accredited registrars attended. It was an opportunity for the contracted parties to collaborate with ICANN on the compliance process, responses to notices and ask questions. Topics presented include Whois Inaccuracy, Specification on Privacy and Proxy, Data Escrow, Registrar Information Specification (RIS) and Web-posting Obligations (WPO), Compliance Certificate and how to communicate with ICANN Contractual Compliance. After the outreach presentation, Contractual Compliance staff conducted 1 on 1 sessions with 2 contracted parties who had more specific questions. All presentations and 1 on 1 sessions were conducted in English and Korean languages.
ICANN's 62nd Policy Forum in Panama City, 25 - 28 June 2018
The Contractual Compliance team attended the ICANN62 Policy Forum in Panama City, Panama from 25 – 28 June 2018.
The team held a Registrar Meeting [PDF, 10.3 MB] with the Registrar Stakeholder Group compliance sub-group team to address the list of Temporary Specification questions that were brought forward. In addition, the team attended the different Cross-Community and High Interest sessions, the Generic Name Supporting Organization(GNSO) sessions, the Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) sessions, the board meetings with stakeholders, and the different working group and review team sessions. The team also met with different ICANN community members based on their request.
Global Domains Division Industry Summit in Vancouver, Canada – 14 - 17 May 2018
In May, the Contractual Compliance team participated in the Global Domains Division (GDD) Industry Summit in Vancouver. The team held two sessions; one focused on registrar [PDF, 9.30 MB] related topics and the other on registry [PDF, 3.52 MB]. Africa Outreach – 5 May 2018
Contractual Compliance completed a Registrar Workshop in Dakar, Senegal organized by ICANN org as part of the Africa Internet Summit 2018. The outreach session, targeted to African registrars, was delivered in English with interpretation in French. The team provided clarifications on ICANN org's Contractual Compliance approach and process, WHOIS Accuracy Program Specification (WAPS), Transfer Policy requirements, Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP), Compliance Audit Program, abuse and web posting obligations. The registrars provided positive feedback overall and requested for more compliance sessions in the future.
China Outreach – 26 April 2018
Contractual Compliance completed a China outreach visit in partnership with the Global Domains Division team in Guangzhou, China. The outreach was targeted at China registries and registrars and approximately 20 representatives attended. Remote participation was available for registries and registrars who are unable to attend in person. It was an opportunity for the contracted parties to collaborate with ICANN on the compliance process and responses to notices. Registry and Registrar topics discussed include Annual Code of Conduct, Whois Inaccuracy, Transfer Policy, Registrar Information Specification and Web-posting Obligations, and communicating with ICANN Contractual Compliance. The session was conducted in Chinese. The registries and registrars were appreciative of this outreach and of the ability to interact in their local language.
ICANN's 61st International Meeting in San Juan, 12 - 15 March 2018
The Contractual Compliance team attended the ICANN61 Community Forum in San Juan, Puerto Rico from 12 - 15 March 2018.
On Wednesday, the team provided a Contractual Compliance Program Update [PDF, 14 MB] to the community with a focus on the latest work to enhance transparency in reporting. The team walked through the enhanced Monthly Dashboard, explaining the new details on the subject matter of complaints, and continued with the new quarterly and annual reports. In addition, the team addressed questions from the attendees. The team held a Registrar Outreach [PDF, 27 MB] session to provide an update on compliance related matters and addressed a list of questions and issues that were brought forward by the Registrar Stakeholder Group compliance sub-group team. The Registry Outreach [PDF, 10 MB] session did not take place due to a schedule conflict.

The team also held meetings throughout the week with different ICANN community members, including contracted parties based on request.

Germany Outreach - 21 February 2018
Contractual Compliance completed an outreach visit in Munich, Germany, in partnership with the Global Domains Division and Global Stakeholder Engagement teams. The event, called "Get Engaged with ICANN- Seminar for Registrars," was organized in conjunction with Domain Pulse 2018. Fourteen ICANN accredited registrars were onsite and six participated remotely. It was an opportunity for the registrars to collaborate with ICANN on the compliance process, responses to notices, and ask questions. Topics presented include Registrar Data Escrow, WHOIS Accuracy Program Specification (WAPS), Transfer Policy, ICANN Registrar Audit Program, Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy and annual certification. The registrars provided positive feedback overall. Per survey results, 80% of the participants were most satisfied with the compliance session and requested for more sessions dedicated to compliance and operational topics in the future.
