ICANN Launches New Community Pages

8 October 2024
By

I am pleased to announce the debut of a new Community section on https://icann.org as part of ICANN's continuing efforts to build the Information Transparency Platform (ITP). This replaces the current Community page and introduces a new consolidated section for Community Recognition Programs. Community-driven work is at the core of ICANN's policy development efforts. Members of the ICANN community come from all over the world and bring a diversity of backgrounds and experiences to develop policies about the technical coordination of the Internet's unique identifiers.

The pages in the Community Recognition Programs include: Annual Community Recognition Program, Dr. Tarek Kamel Award for Capacity Building, ICANN Community Excellence Award, In Memoriam, and the Working Group Chairs Recognition.

Annual Community Recognition Program

At every Annual General Meeting, ICANN recognizes community leaders for their service across our Supporting Organizations, Advisory Committees, stakeholder groups, and constituencies.

Dr. Tarek Kamel Award for Capacity Building

First introduced in January 2020 and named in honor of the late Dr. Tarek Kamel, an Internet pioneer known for his contributions to global Internet governance, this award recognizes community members for significant efforts in developing capacity in areas related to ICANN's mission.

ICANN Community Excellence Award

This award honors ICANN community members who have deeply invested in consensus-based solutions and substantively contributed to policy development in the ICANN multistakeholder model.

In Memoriam

ICANN's history features exemplary individuals who have devoted their time to being a part of its community and Board. ICANN honors those who devoted their lives and careers to ensuring the security, stability, and interoperability of the Domain Name System.

Working Group Chairs Recognition

Each year, ICANN takes time to acknowledge and celebrate the dedication, leadership, and tireless efforts of its community members, specifically its working group chairs.

What is the ITP?

The ITP is a continuation of the Information Transparency Initiative (ITI). ITI began as an operational activity to improve ICANN's content governance and infrastructure, and later evolved into the robust Information Transparency Platform.

We are committed to increasing the transparency and accessibility of all ICANN content and look forward to providing you with future updates on our progress.

For more information about the ITP, please visit https://www.icann.org/iti.

If you have any ITP-related questions or comments, please contact the ITI team at: [email protected].
