We're excited to announce that, for the third year in a row, ICANN will be sponsoring and attending RightsCon, which will be taking place from 30 March to 1 April, in San Francisco.

For those who don't know, RightsCon is a multistakeholder event that brings together participants from civil society, the end-user community and tech companies, to discuss how digital rights can be not only protected, but extended and strengthened.

Lots of ICANN community members will be attending the conference, organizing meetings or speaking on one of the event panels, and we highly encourage you to attend as well.

RightsCon Attendees

A number of members from the Non-Commercial Users Constituency (NCUC http://www.ncuc.org) will be attending, and the NCUC will be hosting a session about online rights in relation to Domain Name System (DNS) policy, and why it matters to participate in policy making. Details for the session can be found at https://rightscon.sched.org/event/6Ih0/never-underestimate-domain-names-policies.

The NCUC focuses on gTLD policy development, Internet governance policy, protecting noncommercial communication and consumer protection, civil liberties and human rights, so RightsCon is an excellent venue for such an important discussion.

ICANN and CloudFlare https://www.cloudflare.com/ will be also hosting a joint session about ensuring users' rights in Internet governance policy development. The details for this session can be found at https://rightscon.sched.org/event/6MI2/ensuring-users-rights-are-part-of-internet-governance-debates. Sally Costerton, ICANNs's Senior Vice President of Global Stakeholder Engagement, will join a panel discussing the growing interest of many parties in influencing and controlling the Internet, details are here https://rightscon.sched.org/event/6MHs/whoever-controls-the-future-of-the-internet-controls-the-future-of-the-world

Please get in touch with us if you plan to be at RightsCon – it would be great to see you there!
