Purpose: The public comment period is aimed at gathering community input on the draft proposal for the NextGen@ICANN program improvements. It is part of the community consultation process to review existing practices and define the vision for the future of the NextGen@ICANN Program.
Current Status: The ICANN organization is seeking comments on the draft report, which provides an overview of proposed revisions to the NextGen@ICANN Program. The proposed changes were informed by feedback from Supporting Organizations (SOs) and Advisory Committees (ACs) during the first phase of the community consultation. Budgetary decisions are not a part of this process.

Implementation of the program improvements will take effect at least two meetings after the final plan is published.

Section I: Description and Explanation
The NextGen@ICANN Program aims to broaden participation in ICANN by providing opportunities for university students to better understand ICANN and the Internet ecosystem. It is intended for students who are 18-30 years old and who are from the region where the ICANN Public Meeting is taking place. The five-year anniversary of the program presented an opportunity to seek community input on progress to date and evaluate how to best anticipate and meet future community needs.
The community consultation has been designed to help identify community needs and priorities. It will help define the vision for the future. It is intended, in an efficient and sustainable manner, to ensure that the program continues to evolve to meet current and anticipated community needs. The draft document of the Proposal for NextGen@ICANN Program Improvements reflects community input on the future of the program. It is summarized in the draft Summary of Findings.
Section II: Background
As part of the community consultation process to identify improvements for the NextGen@ICANN Program, the ICANN organization considered input from a questionnaire and a poll circulated to Supporting Organizations (SOs), Advisory Committees (ACs), and relevant stakeholder groups and communities. A report of the findings of this community input was prepared by the ICANN organization, which also produced proposed revisions to the NextGen@ICANN Program.
