Internet Governance Network
The Internet Governance Network is a space for members of the global Internet community to exchange information, resources, and perspectives on Internet governance issues connected to ICANN's remit. This includes developments in the United Nations intergovernmental and multilateral processes and related activities that ICANN is engaged in or monitoring.
Participation in this mailing list is voluntary and does not create any obligations for ICANN or the subscribers. Discussions are for informational purposes only and do not represent the positions of ICANN or community consensus.
ICANN convenes and facilitates the network and participates in discussions in its institutional capacity alongside other participants.
Similar to the WSIS+20 Outreach Network, the Internet Governance Network supports communication and collaboration among subscribers who wish to:
- Discuss issues related to the multistakeholder model of Internet governance that pertain to ICANN's mission.
- Share information on initiatives that support an open, secure, and interoperable Internet.
To keep discussions focused, the network is organized around specific global processes and milestones. Once a given process concludes, the mailing list will be closed, and a new one may be created as needed for future milestones.
Current Focus
The Internet Governance Forum (IGF)
The IGF was established by the Tunis Agenda as a platform for dialogue on Internet governance issues. As part of the WSIS+20 Review, U.N. Member States resolved to make the IGF mandate permanent. This creates an opportunity for stakeholders from across the Internet ecosystem to share perspectives on how a permanent IGF can remain effective as the Internet continues to evolve.
ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2026 (PP-26)
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary (PP) Conference is the ITU's main decision-making body and is held every four years. All ITU Member States participate in this treaty-based conference. The PP sets the organization's strategic direction, approves its financial plan, elects leadership, and adopts or amends resolutions that guide policy related to global telecommunications and Information and Communications Technology. These decisions may also affect discussions related to Internet governance.
