Outcome

The ICANN organization appreciates the comments submitted by the community on the Root Zone Label Generation Rules Version 6 (RZ-LGR-6). ICANN org received eight submissions.

One submission provided additional feedback from the Integration Panel (IP). Three submissions expressed a view that the Thaana script and other updates have been integrated correctly into the RZ-LGR-6 by the IP. Four submissions are in support and suggest some improvement to the RZ-LGR-6.

As per the LGR Procedure, the IP analyzes the comments and incorporates them as needed. The final version of RZ-LGR-6 will be posted on the Root Zone Label Generation Rules page.

What We Received Input On

Recently the Thaana script Generation Panel (GP) finalized the Thaana script Root Zone Label Generation Rules (RZ-LGR), after its release for Public Comment.

The Integration Panel has successfully evaluated the Thaana script RZ-LGR proposal and integrated it with other scripts in the current RZ-LGR-5 version to develop the Root Zone LGR version 6 (RZ-LGR-6). In addition, RZ-LGR-6 includes updated RZ-LGRs for Bangla (Bengali), Japanese, and Khmer scripts. Additional details can be found in the Changes from RZ LGR-5 section in each script RZ-LGR.

The RZ-LGR-6 covers the following scripts: Arabic, Armenian, Bangla, Chinese (Han), Cyrillic, Devanagari, Ethiopic, Georgian, Greek, Gujarati, Gurmukhi, Hebrew, Japanese (Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji [Han]), Kannada, Khmer, Korean (Hangul and Hanja [Han]), Lao, Latin, Malayalam, Myanmar, Oriya, Sinhala, Tamil, Telugu, Thaana, and Thai.

As per the RZ-LGR Procedure, RZ-LGR-6 is being released for Public Comment to gather community feedback for its finalization. Proposals for additional scripts will be integrated in future versions of the RZ-LGR.

Overview and Summary of RZ-LGR-6

Background

Community-based GPs organize and develop proposals for the RZ-LGR for their respective scripts or writing systems as per the LGR Procedure. In doing so, the GPs may need to coordinate efforts with other GPs whenever their repertoires either overlap or are closely related. Script proposals are finalized after Public Comment proceedings and then are submitted to the Integration Panel (IP) for evaluation. The successfully evaluated proposals are integrated into the next version of RZ-LGR.

In the LGR Procedure it states that the IP creates a set of recommended rules that integrates all the approved proposals from the GPs. When the IP has created such a set, it is posted for Public Comment using the prevailing ICANN procedures. Based on the comment received, IP will review comments and finalize the RZ-LGR. The resulting rules become the applicable version of the RZ-LGR.
