Today, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced that the applications for the Asia Pacific Internet Governance Academy (APIGA) 2023 will open on Monday, 1 May 2023 00:00 KST (UTC+9). Hosted by ICANN and the Korea Internet and Security Agency (KISA), APIGA will be held from 24–28 July 2023 in Seoul, Republic of Korea. More details including application information can be found on the APIGA 2023 website.

What is APIGA?

Launched in 2016, APIGA is a 5-day capacity development program focused on Internet governance (IG) targeted at youths in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.

Through the program, participants will build a strong foundation in IG fundamentals. This includes guided pathways to continue participating in the IG space such as ICANN, the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC), the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), the Internet Society (ISOC), and various other IG fora.

Participants will learn via immersive, hands-on sessions with dedicated mentoring by regional industry experts. They will also build a strong network with peers, APIGA alumni, leading APAC Internet organizations and key APAC community leaders.

Past data shows that one in four APIGA alumni continue to participate in the IG fora locally, regionally, and globally.

Who can apply?

Individuals from the APAC region between the ages of 18 and 35 (both ages inclusive) and are interested in Internet governance issues are welcome to apply. Applications closes on Wednesday, 24 May 2023 23:59 KST (UTC+9). For more information about APIGA and to apply, please visit the APIGA 2023 website.

About ICANN

ICANN's mission is to help ensure a stable, secure, and unified global Internet. To reach another person on the Internet, you need to type an address – a name or a number – into your computer or other device. That address must be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN helps coordinate and support these unique identifiers across the world. ICANN was formed in 1998 as a nonprofit public benefit corporation with a community of participants from all over the world.
