Public Comment is a vital part of our multistakeholder model. It provides a mechanism for stakeholders to have their opinions and recommendations formally and publicly documented. It is an opportunity for the ICANN community to effect change and improve policies and operations.

I appreciate the LD PDP Working Group’s effort to address the current policy gap surrounding Latin-script diacritic gTLDs that are not treated as variants of their base ASCII forms. As the DNS continues to support broader multilingual and culturally accurate domain usage, it is important to establish a mechanism that enables a single registry operator to manage both the ASCII and diacritic versions in a coordinated and secure way.
The WG’s preliminary recommendations appear to provide a constructive starting point for ensuring consistent user experience, reducing confusion, and supporting linguistic diversity, while maintaining operational stability in the gTLD space. I encourage the WG to ensure that any proposed mechanism includes clear safeguards against misuse, strong alignment with existing IDN and variant policies, and predictable implementation guidance for registries and applicants.
