Istanbul, Turkey – The third Turkey Domain Name System (DNS) Forum kicks off tomorrow in Istanbul from 15-16 February. The Forum is organized by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and sponsored by IHS Telekom. It will bring together interested participants with key players in the domain name field, to discuss current topics in Turkey's industry. Representatives from ICANN, the Government of Turkey and IHS Telekom will provide welcoming remarks.

Launched in 2014, the Forum aims to connect interested parties with international experts and key players in the industry, update Turkish stakeholders on the latest developments at ICANN, and educate and inform attendees on the DNS industry in general.

From "Websites and Social Media in Turkey" to "DNS and Cybersecurity", the two-day forum will cover various sessions in which over 20 speakers will present and discuss current topics in Internet governance and DNS. The forum is also a great opportunity to find out about latest trends in the domain name industry, posing new venture areas for DNS industry professionals.

"The Turkey DNS Forum is an essential platform as it is unique in bringing together all NGOs, private sector and government organizations forming the DNS ecosystem of Turkey. As one of the leading DNS providers, IHS Telekom is happy to support the Forum."
Emre Sayın, Founder and CEO, IHS Telekom

Legal issues such as domain name legal aspects as well as data protection and IP laws in Turkey will also be covered, during the second day of the Forum. Legal experts will hold an IP Law and Data Protection Law tutorial at the end of the event.

ICANN, as an international organization, has relationships with global Internet stakeholders and is looking to extend regional engagement and cooperation with these stakeholders here in Turkey to complement its work around the world.

"As the domain name market in Turkey continues to evolve, we are seeing more interest from across the community in discussing various business, technical and legal issues related to the DNS. The Turkey DNS Forum is the place for the community to come together to exchange views not only on past experiences and key current issues, but also the prospects of the industry in the years ahead."
Baher Esmat, VP of Global Stakeholder Engagement in the Middle East, ICANN

Participants from ICANN, other Internet organizations, registries, registrars, registrants, country code Top Level Domain (ccTLDs), new generic Top Level Domains (gTLDs) applicants, policy makers, Internet service providers, IT businesses, brand owners and legal firms, academics and civil society will attend the event in an effort to share experiences and best practices.

The forum is open to anyone interested in issues pertaining to the domain name industry and the business opportunities it can provide, and engage with key players and experts in the field. ICANN continuously works on building relationships with the Turkish community to generate understanding on the potential of the domain name industry, and assist with the development of local expertise and know-how in different aspects of the domain name ecosystem.

ICANN's mission is to help ensure a stable, secure and unified global Internet. That address must be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN helps coordinate and support these unique identifiers across the world. ICANN was formed in 1998 as a not-for-profit public-benefit corporation and a community with participants from all over the world.
