ICANN57 will be held in Hyderabad, India, from 3–9 November 2016. Together with Samiran Gupta, Head of India, and the Asia Pacific Hub team, I welcome you to Hyderabad!

We are very excited about this second ICANN Public Meeting to be hosted in India. The first, ICANN31, was held in February 2008 in New Delhi.

Currently, over 462 million people in India are connected to the Internet. This number may seem huge, but it represents only 34% of the country’s population. It’s no surprise that we expect many of the next billion Internet users to come from India!

With India’s support of the multistakeholder model of Internet governance, ICANN57 presents an opportunity for ICANN’s global community. We hope to strengthen our connections with India’s multistakeholders as we work together to maintain a stable, secure and interoperable Internet for the benefit of all.

Hyderabad – nicknamed “Cyberabad” – is home to top international and Indian information technology companies. Hyderabad is the capital of India’s newest state, Telengana, which was established in June 2014. But for history buffs, the city of Hyderabad, situated on the banks of the Musi river, was founded in 1589 by the Qutub Shahi dynasty. Hyderabad’s uniqueness is that the ancient and the modern blend seamlessly. From the late 1990s, Hyderabad started gaining prominence as a center for the information technology industry, and has grown to earn its nickname.

We look forward to meeting you in Hyderabad!
