The ICANN Security and Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC) always looks forward to joining the ICANN community and the broader Internet community at each ICANN Public Meeting. ICANN84 proved no exception.
ICANN84 was the perfect time to share SSAC's recent publication, SAC132, discuss our ongoing work, and seek opportunities for greater engagement and collaboration with other Supporting Organizations (SOs) and Advisory Committees (ACs) on matters of security, stability, and the resilience of the global Internet.
Educating on Internet Critical Infrastructure
In joint sessions with other SOs and ACs and in our own sessions, the SSAC presented the research, findings, and recommendations from "SAC132: The Domain Name System Runs on Free and Open Source Software (FOSS)." We detailed an important story about how free and open-source software is deeply integrated across the many layers of the Domain Name System (DNS). We advocated for increased awareness of a critical element of the Internet technology that connects us across the world, and the significance of responsible collaboration to maintain its resilience.
In bringing to light this significant work about FOSS in the DNS, we recall our commitment to advise the ICANN community and Board on matters of the security, stability, and resilience of the global Internet. And we are even more motivated to continue engaging in dialogue and educating community partners on significant issues.
Strengthening Collaborations Across the Community
Together with other SOs and ACs, the SSAC engaged in conversations about opportunities for impactful collaborations on a number of topics, including DNS Abuse, emerging technologies, and ongoing efforts to enhance the overall effectiveness of ICANN.
The SSAC is optimistic about the upcoming policy work to address DNS Abuse that we will be advising on, alongside members across the ICANN community. It is clear that the ICANN community is made more efficient, effective, and thorough through joint efforts to address matters of significance from a holistic perspective.
Communicating Ongoing Work Actively and Transparently
The SSAC has been working to be more accessible, not only in our work but also in how we deliver key messages.
At ICANN84, we provided overviews and insights into our current and upcoming work parties. These were not updates for their own sake, but opportunities for early dialogue in our efforts to remain aligned with the needs of the community, so we can focus on increasing the value of our advice.
Through our latest communications initiatives, including launching the SSAC LinkedIn page and making our reports and educational materials more accessible, we are continually seeking to make our advice easier to understand and share.
Continuing our Mission
The SSAC will continue to engage with the community and leverage our expert members, staff, and tools to deliver impactful advice. We look forward to the next time we meet at ICANN85 in Mumbai.
