Sally is an experienced global leader. She has served as Senior Advisor to the President and Senior Vice President, Global Stakeholder Engagement (GSE) since 2012, and is also currently serving as ICANN's Interim President and Chief Executive Officer. In her role, she is responsible for ICANN's international offices and internationalization strategy. Her direct reports include the regional office managing directors and regional vice presidents, as well as the vice presidents of Meetings and Public Responsibility Support (PRS). Most recently, Sally led the development phase of the ICANN Grant Program, the Emergency Support Infrastructure Project and ICANN organization's contributions to the Anti-Harassment Board Working Group. Under the GSE function, she leads the GSE, Meetings, and Public Responsibility Support teams.

Prior to joining ICANN, Sally led one of Europe's largest public relations firms, Hill & Knowlton, as EMEA CEO. In this role, she was responsible for more than 1,000 staff members in 33 offices. Throughout her career, Sally has worked with diverse international companies and senior leaders to maximize their resources and build strong relationships with their stakeholders. She is an experienced Board Director, including roles as Board Chair.

David Olive is the Senior Vice President of Policy Development Support at the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). He leads the team responsible for developing and coordinating policies with the Internet community to support the security, stability, and interoperability of the Internet.

Prior to joining ICANN in 2010, David served at Fujitsu Limited in Washington, D.C., as General Manager and chief corporate representative where he led the formation of public policy on Internet communications technology. He advised executives on business planning, corporate and business development, and public policy for the Internet, electronic commerce, telecommunications, science, and technology.

Before Fujitsu, David served as a U.S. Department of State Foreign Service Officer where he specialized in trade, investment, and technology policy. He was a recipient of the Department’s Meritorious Honor Award for distinguished service.

David has served with many technology and business organizations including the Commercial Board of Directors of TechAmerica, Board of Directors of the Computer and Communications Industry Association, the U.S.-Japan Business Council, International Chamber of Commerce, and more.

David earned his bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University and graduate degrees from Johns Hopkins University and Princeton University. He has completed executive leadership programs at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and Kadir Has University in Istanbul, Turkey.

Today, the ICANN organization published revised Community Travel Support Guidelines. The ICANN org began the process of updating the guidelines last year. The goal of this process was to improve the guidelines for supported travelers, as the last revisions were made in 2013; provide clarity for supported travelers and community groups; and separate matters of funding from the guidelines. The revisions do not address specific requests for changing levels of support. This approach ensures discussions of resource allocation remain part of the budget planning process.

The guidelines reflect the initial input received from the community consultation conducted between September 2017 and January 2018, as well as the subsequent submissions received as part of the public comment proceeding conducted from May to July 2018. The ICANN org appreciates the contributions of the community to this process, and the guidelines build on community experiences and capture observations made by ICANN Travel Support.

Over the past few years, several community groups have experimented with increased levels of funding through the Additional Budget Request process. In a number of cases, increased travel support was later incorporated into the budget and operating plan. The ICANN org recognizes the significant value that the community's work provides in the furtherance of its mission. Likewise, the ICANN org recognizes that individual community group requests to increase travel support levels are important, requiring consideration as part of the budget planning process.

The long-term sustainability of travel support requires strategic consideration by the community. Demands are growing over time, driven by many factors. This includes increasing cross-community work, robust policy development and implementation, growth in working groups, and the expansion of reviews. Currently, ICANN supports more than 300 community members to attend each ICANN Public Meeting, and spends considerable resources on travel support for approved ICANN events.

The Global Stakeholder Engagement and Policy Development Support departments led the revision process and collaboration with the community. The Communications, Finance, Legal, and Travel Services departments offered guidance as well. Moving forward, ICANN welcomes feedback from the community on how well the guidelines are meeting its needs and expectations. The ICANN org commits to a regular review of the guidelines after a sufficient period of working with the revised guidelines.
