Are you interested in Public Participation at ICANN?
There is a group called the Public Participation Committee (PPC) of the ICANN Board and its Charter was approved in March 2009. According to this Charter, among its other duties, the PPC is primarily responsible for:
- Assisting the Board in defining ICANN’s Public Participation strategies and guidelines and;
- Supervising the development and implementation of a Public Participation program.
Since developing its charter, the PPC has worked with ICANN Staff to develop general strategies and guidelines for the conduct of Public Participation activities.
Two of the main focuses of the PPC to date were Remote Participation Tools and Meetings for the Next Decade.
Based on the PPC recommendations, a robust collection of remote participation tools and processes were put in place and have been in use since the ICANN Meeting 37 in Nairobi Kenya. They received improvements during ICANN Meeting 38 in Brussels Belgium recently.
PPC recently evaluated the Meetings of the Next Decade consultation results too. One of the major points among the received feedback was about “Hub City” concept that could be deployed for the ICANN Meetings (using the same locations for the meetings).
Using the face-to-face interaction opportunity of the ICANN meetings, PPC would like to discuss these topics with the ICANN community. For this purpose, we organized a session in Cartagena called the “Public Participation Committee Community Update” to take place on Thursday, 09 December 2010 between 09:30 – 10:30.
We hope the community will take this opportunity to provide feedback to the PPC and the ICANN staff for future improvements on Remote Participation, Next Decade ICANN meetings and Public Comment Processes that will also be part of the agenda of this session.
For those who will not be in Cartagena physically, Remote Participation tools will be available to you for this session. Please see http://cartagena39.icann.org/node/15485
Please note the date in your calendars and provide your input!
