New gTLD Consultation: PDDRP and Agreement Amendment Processes

23 April 2010
By Craig Schwartz

On 13 April 2010, ICANN convened an open consultation on the Trademark Post-Delegation Dispute Resolution and Registry Agreement Amendment Processes in the new gTLD program. This consultation was organized in response to a request from the Registry Stakeholder Group (RySG) to discuss concerns they have raised in their stakeholder meetings and public comments fora on new gTLDs.

Based on the discussion, ICANN is exploring setting-up a legal working group to draft new proposed contract language for public comment. This group may draft sets of potential solutions following on from the suggested set of compromises from the meeting on 13 April. In the meantime, a follow-up consultation to be facilitated by remote participation will be held on Monday, 3 May from 16:00 – 22:00 UTC (http://timeanddate.com/s/1q00).

Materials from the consultation are now available at http://www.icann.org/en/topics/new-gtlds/related-en.htm under the Related Materials heading and include the MP3 recording, unofficial transcript of the MP3 recording, Adobe chat session transcript, RySG proposed agenda, and Registry Agreement Amendment Process (draft document for discussion purposes only).

If you would like to participate in the follow-up consultation, please submit an expression of interest to registry-liaison@icann.org by 28 April.
