LACTLD Policy Workshop in the Middle of the World

30 May 2012

Earlier this month in Quito, Ecuador, I was invited to deliver a presentation at the Latin American and Caribbean TLD (LACTLD) Policy Workshop. The workshop agenda focused on cybersecurity, Internet governance and intellectual property and how these may impact the ccTLD community.

There were plenty of enriching discussions and presentations from various relevant organizations in the region, such as the Organization of American States, Google, .CAT, .AR, .PA, .CO, .MX, .SV, Verisign, the Internet Association of Mexico, Fundación Vía Libre, and many others including Frederico Neves from NIC.br who delivered an update from the ICANN Security and Stability Advisory Committee.

At the end of the Workshop, LACTLD held their Ordinary Assembly where the Board of Directors was renewed. The Board is now comprised by Chair of the Board of Director Eduardo Santoyo (.CO), Secretary Luis Arancibia (.CL), Treasurer Víctor Abboud (.EC), Vocal Member Clara Collado (.DO), and Vocal Member Frederico Neves (.BR). The Fiscal Commission is now integrated by Edna Samudio (.PA), María Antonieta Chavarría (.CR) and Mariela De León (.UY).

Join me in thanking the previous leadership of LACTLD for a fantastic tenure and also in congratulating the new Board members. ICANN will continue to support LACTLD in every possible way. I am sure the board will do an outstanding job for the ccTLDs in the region, which are among the main pillars of our multistakeholder model.
