Clarifying Recent Language Updates on ICANN.org

I’d like to address recent updates we made to the language on a few public-facing icann.org webpages related to diversity at ICANN. I recognize that these changes have raised questions, and it’s important to provide clarity.

In response to evolving external dynamics, we took the opportunity to review and assess the language we used.

While some terminology may have changed, the values that guide our work have not. Our actions and commitments remain the same. We have not stepped back from, retreated from, or abandoned ICANN’s core values, or an environment where all voices are welcomed, respected, and valued. Neither are we changing or retreating from our programs that aim to expand participation and engagement from underserved regions or stakeholders, such as our NextGen or the Fellowship programs, where we are instead working to increase the visibility of the NextGen program, as one example.

We know that transparency and trust are essential, especially in matters that affect representation and belonging. We welcome continued dialogue and feedback and remain fully committed to fostering a workplace and community where everyone can thrive.
