About the SSAD ODP

The SSAD is a mechanism proposed to centralize requests for nonpublic registration data, outlined in Recommendations 1-18 of the Final Report of the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) Expedited Policy Development Process (EPDP) on the Temporary Specification for gTLD Registration Data Phase 2. Due to the resource investment and complexity that would likely be required to implement the SSAD-related policy recommendations in a timely and predictable manner, the ICANN Board has requested an ODP to inform its deliberations, including whether the recommendations are in the best interests of the ICANN community or ICANN.

About ICANN

ICANN's mission is to help ensure a stable, secure, and unified global Internet. To reach another person on the Internet, you need to type an address – a name or a number – into your computer or other device. That address must be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN helps coordinate and support these unique identifiers across the world. ICANN was formed in 1998 as a nonprofit public benefit corporation with a community of participants from all over the world.
