ICANN Seeks Input on Registration Data Policy Urgent Request Timeline

22 October 2025

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is seeking input on a timeline for urgent requests for the lawful disclosure of nonpublic registration data for circumstances in which the party requesting access to the data has been authenticated.

This is in response to the Expedited Policy Development Process on the Temporary Specification for gTLD Registration Data Phase 1 Recommendation 18. The recommendation highlights a need for developing a timeline for responding to urgent data disclosure requests. In alignment with the Governmental Advisory Committee, Generic Names Supporting Organization Council, and the ICANN Board, ICANN org was encouraged to continue discussions with the Implementation Review Team to establish such a timeline.

About ICANN

ICANN's mission is to help ensure a stable, secure, and unified global Internet. To reach another person on the Internet, you need to type an address – a name or a number – into your computer or other device. That address must be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN helps coordinate and support these unique identifiers across the world. ICANN was formed in 1998 as a nonprofit public benefit corporation with a community of participants from all over the world.
