Draft Amendment No.1 to the Service Level Agreement for the IANA Numbering Services (pdf, 139.62 KB)

As part of the 2016 IANA Stewardship Transition, ICANN organization and the five Regional Internet Registries (“RIRs”) entered into the Service Level Agreement for the IANA Numbering Services (SLA), for the provision of continuous coordination of the number resource administrative function. ICANN org subcontracts its performance of the IANA Numbering Services to its affiliate, Public Technical Identifiers (PTI), also known as IANA.

ICANN and the RIRs have identified a necessary update to the SLA to incorporate obligations for the administration of Reverse DNS Resolution Services, which the parties agree is important to be within the SLA. The proposed amendment was negotiated between the parties to confirm its technical propriety, and the RIRs have collectively indicated their support to proceed with this amendment. The amendment only adds specifications for administration of Reverse DNS Resolution Services, and does not otherwise alter or remove any other existing obligations under the SLA. For transparency, the parties have agreed to post this proposed amendment for Public Comment.

Next Steps

Feedback received from this Public Comment period will be taken into consideration.  Following the close of Public Comment, ICANN org will analyze the comments and consider with the RIRs whether any additional modification is necessary prior to completing the amendment. If the amendment proceeds, the updated obligations will be part of IANA’s responsibilities in providing the IANA Numbering Services.
