Outcome

ICANN org has received input that will inform its deliberations with the Regional Internet Registries on finalizing the proposed amendments to the Service Level Agreement for the IANA Numbering Services. The comments received do not suggest that fundamental changes need to be made to the proposed text but focus on some suggested revisions that will be considered by the parties.

What We Received Input On

Do you support the proposed amendment to the Service Level Agreement for the IANA Numbering Services as agreed to between ICANN org and the Regional Internet Registries?

Background

As part of the 2016 IANA Stewardship Transition, ICANN organization and the five Regional Internet Registries (“RIRs”) entered into the Service Level Agreement for the IANA Numbering Services (SLA), for the provision of continuous coordination of the number resource administrative function. ICANN org subcontracts its performance of the IANA Numbering Services to its affiliate, Public Technical Identifiers (PTI), also known as IANA. 

ICANN and the RIRs have identified a necessary update to the SLA to incorporate obligations for the administration of Reverse DNS Resolution Services, which the parties agree is important to be within the SLA. The proposed amendment was negotiated between the parties to confirm its technical propriety, and the RIRs have collectively indicated their support to proceed with this amendment. The amendment only adds specifications for administration of Reverse DNS Resolution Services, and does not otherwise alter or remove any other existing obligations under the SLA. For transparency, the parties have agreed to post this proposed amendment for Public Comment.
