Summary of Attachment

This correspondence provides comments from the ICANN Security and Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC) on the on the Proposed Procedure for Selecting a Top-Level Domain String for Private Use. The SSAC thanks ICANN org for its work producing the proposed procedure and welcomes the opportunity to provide comment.

Summary of Submission

The SSAC considers that this proposed procedure needs to have more detail in it, especially about how it will assess Criteria 3 and 4, if there is to be no further opportunity to comment on the process. In particular, the proposed procedure should explain how candidate strings will be tested for confusing similarity, memorability, and meaningfulness, taking into account both native and non-native speakers of the language(s) in which the string is intended to be understood.

The SSAC suggests that, if the output of the proposed procedure is not able to be questioned, only whether the process has been followed, then the process described in the final version of this proposed procedure document needs to have more detail, and the community needs to have an opportunity to review it.
