We would like to express our support for a PDP that would recognize the need for a simultaneous presence in the digital space of an IDN geoTLD for the Latin Script Diacritics and its ASCII counterpart for the same registry.

Internet and digital technologies must facilitate expression of cultural diversity. The challenges of Universal Acceptance requires adaptation and gradual functional integration.

The mere fact of making it technically possible for local languages to be present in the DNS does not guarantee their accessibility and functionality throughout the technological mosaic of the Internet and digital technology.

So, for example, in 2024, in the Latin script, the IDN and EAI functionalities are for all intents and purposes inoperable. Internet users are thus confined in terms of language to be used, while a large part of existing linguistic and cultural diversity is ignored or not considered.

The solutions envisaged by the current Issue Report seem to be promising for the future in terms of the gradual implementation of local languages of the Latin script with diacritical signs, while providing for a mechanism for switching to ASCII TLD when the said functionalities are not available to both content broadcasters and the end-user.

We believe that these solutions are innovative and allow us to glimpse a future within reach that guarantees cultural and linguistic diversity.
