The Registries Stakeholder Group (RySG) welcomes the opportunity to provide comments on the IANA 2030 Strategy: Draft PTI Strategic Plan covering 2025 to 2030 (the “Draft”).
The RySG is broadly supportive of the content that this Draft contains. In particular, we note and support the goals as organized into the three focus areas of innovation, operational excellence, and community engagement. We also appreciate IANA taking a proactive approach related to emerging technologies (Goal 1.1), given the possible risks of such technologies related to Internet fragmentation and interoperability. Additionally, while PTI’s customers have enjoyed a track record of outstanding performance, we appreciate that the Draft indicates that PTI does not intend to rest on its laurels and is seeking opportunities for improvement (Goal 2.2 and Goal 2.4). Also, we are glad that PTI acknowledges that the work of community engagement is never done (Goal 3.1).
The RySG specifically notes and supports the stated intent to invest in PTI staff (Goal 2.3). PTI is a unique organization, made up of highly skilled and specially qualified individuals. In such organizations, individual development is important for both personal growth and to avoid ‘single points of failure’ in critical business processes.
Lastly, we also appreciate the clear-eyed and candid statement of risks contained within the document.
Along with the members of ccNSO and other members of the community, the RySG depends on an effective, efficient, reliable, and secure IANA function as operated by PTI. We look forward to the Draft being finalized and used to guide PTI in the coming years.
