ACIP comment on the Africa DNS study.

Summary of Submission

The Africa Community Internet Program (ACIP) thanked ICANN for initiating a study on the DNS in Africa to understand the DNS landscape in Africa. ACIP, through the humanitarian technology known as internet backpacks, supports ICANN's mission to connect the next billion and believes the study has identified key issues and challenges that require appropriate interventions.

ACIP is particularly impressed to see the report cover the contribution and challenges of non-traditional methods of Internet broadband such as satellites and TV White Spaces (TVWS) for remote communities, including the recommendations on how to improve these types of access for remote communities by looking to better broadband policies and updates to regulation. Therefore, ACIP would love to see the report address community networks which are crucial for rural communities, conduct in-depth analysis of regional variations, and be inclusive of broader stakeholders.
