Approval Actions

1. ICANN Board Proposal – The ICANN Board proposes an action that requires community approval, such as a fundamental bylaw amendment.
2. Notice to the Empowered Community – The proposal is formally communicated to the Empowered Community Administration (ECA), which oversees the process.
3. Community Discussion Period – Each Decisional Participant (DP), including the ccNSO, has a set period to review and discuss the proposal with its members.
4. Decision by the ccNSO – The ccNSO consults country code top-level domain (ccTLD) managers and decides whether to support or object to the action.
5. Submission of Decision – If the ccNSO supports the action, it submits its approval to the Empowered Community Administration (ECA).
6. Final Approval – If enough Decisional Participants approve the action, it moves forward. 

As one of the five Decisional Participants in the Empowered Community, the ccNSO ensures that the voices of ccTLD managers are represented in ICANN’s governance. Its role in Approval Actions is crucial for:

• Reviewing and analyzing proposed decisions that may affect ccTLD operators.
• Consulting with ccNSO members to gather input and determine whether to approve or reject the proposal.
• Ensuring that ICANN’s decisions align with the needs and priorities of ccTLDs and the broader internet community.

By participating in Approval Actions, the ccNSO helps safeguard the accountability and transparency of ICANN’s decision-making processes, ensuring that key policy and financial decisions benefit the global Internet ecosystem.
