Public Comment

Public Comment is a vital part of our multistakeholder model. It provides a mechanism for stakeholders to have their opinions and recommendations formally and publicly documented. It is an opportunity for the ICANN community to effect change and improve policies and operations.

Other Comments

The RIPE NCC is an independent, not-for-profit membership organisation that supports the infrastructure of the Internet through technical coordination in our service region. Our most prominent activity is to act as the Regional Internet Registry (RIR) providing global Internet resources and related services (IPv4, IPv6 and AS Number resources) to members in our service region.

Our membership consists mainly of Internet service providers (ISPs), telecommunication organisations and large corporations located in Europe, the Middle East and parts of Central Asia.

We also provide services for the benefit of the Internet community at large. Such as K-Root.

Summary of Submission

The RIPE NCC has operated one of the 13 Root Name Servers, k-root, since 1997 and is committed to continuing to do so.

We have participated in the ICANN Root Server System Governance Working group and, as such, support the proposal.

The RIPE NCC executive board was briefed on the proposed “Root Server System Governance Structure” in their meeting on 5 September and agreed to express a commitment to continue to operate K-root and include this in the long-term strategic plan.

We are committed to continuing our participation in establishing governance in line with our values.

A trustworthy, open, and transparent governance model is necessary for the continued security, stability, and resilience of the root server system.

Sincerely,

Hans Petter Holen
