Summary of Submission

I provide this comment in my own capacity, as a member of the Latin Diacritics PDP and a speaker of several languages concerned by Latin Diacritics.

I would like to express my complete solidarity with the comments issued by Mr Claude Ménard on behalf of PointQuébec : https://www.icann.org/en/public-comment/proceeding/proposed-next-round-base-gtld-registry-agreement-spec-14-variant-tlds-04-12-2025/submissions/menard-claude-26-01-2026

As we all do, I understand and appreciate that the suggested changes will come very late in the ICANN process. Nevertheless, given the high public community visibility this matter has enjoyed at least since ICANN 77 in Washington DC (June 2023), given the conscientious efforts of the Latin Diacritics PDP to ensure that the Policy Recommendations it will return to Council (currently under public comments) are compatible and more often than not match those of the IDN Variant EPDP; it can be argued that the key notion predictability for the next gTLD Round has been met.

Far from suggesting to delay the current program to incorporate the suggested changes, I would propose that Mr Ménard's envisioned new Specification be kept for the record but off the current contract, ready to be incorporated to it once the Latin Critics PDP Recommendations have been adopted and implemented, without waiting for a subsequent round.
