As one of the contributors to the Javanese Script Reference LGR proposal, I would like to provide a clarification regarding the relationship between Rule 3 and Rule 4 in Section 7.4.
While reviewing the proposal, we identified an error in the proposal text. The proposal currently states that U+A9B4 (JAVANESE VOWEL SIGN TARUNG) may follow U+A9BA (JAVANESE VOWEL SIGN TALING) or U+A9BC (JAVANESE VOWEL SIGN PEPET). The reference to U+A9BC is incorrect and should instead be U+A9BB (JAVANESE VOWEL SIGN DIRGA MURE).
The intended orthographic behavior is that U+A9B4 may follow U+A9BA (JAVANESE VOWEL SIGN TALING) or U+A9BB (JAVANESE VOWEL SIGN DIRGA MURE), and it must not follow other dependent vowels. The Javanese Generation Panel Working Group will update the relevant text and corresponding rule references in the final version of the proposal to correctly reflect this intended behavior.
While reviewing the proposal, I also realized that the interaction between Rule 3 and Rule 4 may benefit from additional clarification. Rule 3 describes the general behavior of dependent vowels, whereas Rule 4 provides a specific restriction for U+A9B4. The intended interpretation is that U+A9B4 is governed by the specific restriction described in Rule 4.
To improve readability and reduce the possibility of different interpretations, the Working Group will add a brief clarification in the final version of the supporting document. For example, Rule 3 could explicitly indicate that U+A9B4 is subject to the special restriction described in Rule 4.
These updates are intended to improve the accuracy and clarity of the documentation and do not alter the underlying orthographic intent of the proposal.
