82 Statements of Interest Received by the 2010 Nominating Committee

On 15 April 2010, the nomination period closed for the seven ICANN leadership positions to be filled this year. The 2010 Nominating Committee (NomCom) received 82 Statements of Interest from candidates worldwide during the nomination period from 13 November 2009 to 15 April 2010. (The 2009 Nominating Committee received a comparable number: 86). 78 of this year's candidates are men and 4 are women.

The 2010 NomCom first convened following ICANN's Annual Meeting in Seoul in October 2009, and has the task to select candidates for the following positions:

  • Three members of the Board of Directors of ICANN
  • Two At Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) representatives (one each from the European and North American regions)
  • One member of the Council of the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO)
  • One member of the Council of the Country-Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO)

The regional breakdown of this year's candidates is as follows:

  • 10 from Africa,
  • 20 from Asia/Australia/Pacific
  • 24 from Europe
  • 7 from Latin America/Caribbean.
  • 21 from North America

The 2010 NomCom will collect information and evaluate the candidates through June 2010, when it will hold a face-to-face selection meeting immediately after the ICANN meeting in Brussels, Belgium. Due diligence checks of the selected candidates will follow and the final selections will be announced in early September 2010.

Successful candidates will take up their positions following ICANN's Annual General Meeting in Latin America in December 2010.
