Proposed .COOP Sponsored TLD Agreement Posted for Public Comment

20 April 2007

The proposed .COOP Sponsored TLD agreement is posted for public comment and can be viewed at http://www.icann.org/tlds/agreements/coop/draft-proposed-agreement-19apr07.pdf [PDF, 88K] and appendices at http://www.icann.org/tlds/agreements/coop/draft-proposed-appendies-19apr07.pdf [PDF, 153K].

The proposed .COOP agreement substantially follows the format of other recent sTLD registry agreements negotiated by ICANN. The agreement is for a ten-year term, and provides for the same set of requirements for these key terms:

  • compliance with consensus and temporary policies except to the extent policy development has been delegated to the sponsoring organization;
  • comprehensive registry data escrow; and,
  • approval of new registry services and modifications to existing registry services.

On 21 December 2005, ICANN posted for public comment the Renewal Proposal (http://www.icann.org/tlds/renewals/coop-renewal-proposal-17nov05.pdf) for the .COOP registry in accordance with the terms of the current agreement. ICANN staff continued to work with the sponsoring organization to finalize the proposed agreement and appendices.

Comments on the proposed agreement can be posted to coop-renewal-2007@icann.org no later than 5:00PM PST, 11 May 2007, and viewed at http://forum.icann.org/lists/coop-renewal-2007/. At that time comments will be submitted to the Board of Directors for the Board to consider at its meeting on 15 May 2007.
