ICANN confirmed today that it will be formally responding to the ICANN Governmental Advisory Committee's "GAC Meeting XXIV Communiqué" dated 28 March 2006 and in particular relating to the GAC's questions and concerns on New TLD's and .XXX. ICANN's response to the GAC is expected to be provided within the next week.

ICANN's Board has recently discussed the .XXX Registry Agreement and aspects of ICM's proposal at the last two ICANN Board Meetings on 31 March and 18 April 2006. The ICANN Board is scheduled to continue their consideration of the application and proposed agreement at the Board Meeting scheduled on 10 May 2006.

ICM's proposed version of the .XXX Registry Agreement (which has not been subjected to finalized negotiations with ICANN's Staff) was posted earlier this week for public comments and to commence discussions relating to ICM's latest proposal. ICANN also posted an ICM-drafted letter setting out how ICM believed they had complied with the GAC identified public policy aspects, as well as other comments made during ICANN's recent Wellington Meeting. Before the Board will take final action on the .XXX Registry Agreement it will ensure that it is acting consistently with GAC advice and the ICANN Bylaws relating to the receipt of GAC advice on public policy matters.
