As we approach the end of the current term of ICANN's regional engagement strategy, we invite members of the ICANN community to become part of the new Middle East Strategy working group. This is part of an effort to continuously provide inclusive and equal opportunities for others to take part in shaping ICANN's regional engagement strategy.
Our present strategy in the Middle East ends with ICANN's fiscal year 2020 (30 June 2020). After full consultation with the regional community, an agreement was reached to continue developing a regional strategy and ensuring alignment with ICANN's Strategic Plan for FY21-25 [PDF, 2.1 MB].
The Middle East regional engagement strategy will be effective starting 1 July 2020.
I invite anyone interested in being part of the development of ICANN's Middle East regional strategy to review the information on the position [PDF, 61 KB] and applying by filling out the expression of interest [DOCX, 14 KB] and sending it to firstname.lastname@example.org.
This call for members remains open until Thursday 27 September at 23.59 UTC.
We will be holding two identical webinars where we will be going through the ICANN org's Strategic Plan for FY21-25 and highlighting the nature of the work the new working group will be undertaking, as well as the next steps moving forward. Please join us in one of the following slots:
- Tuesday 17 September 2019 at 16.00 – 17.00 UTC [Webinar link - https://icann.zoom.us/j/143419486]; and

A Quick Background Brief on ICANN's Engagement Strategy in the Middle East
The strategy is a community-driven initiative that started in early 2013. The first strategy covered three years, from July 2013 to June 2016; while the second updated one, is over four years, beginning July 2016 running through till the end of June 2020.
The key objectives of the Middle East's community driven regional strategy are to:
- Increase participation from stakeholders in the region in ICANN's work, both globally and regionally; and
- Bring ICANN to the region by understanding the needs of the community and serving them accordingly.
More information on the strategies can be found here.
