GNSO Website Re-Design

6 June 2012

By now I’m sure many of you have noticed the newly designed GNSO web site at http://gnso.icann.org.

The new site went “LIVE” on 24 May.

In addition to overall cosmetic and design changes, a key feature of the new site is an updated navigation structure to make it easier for users to find relevant content specific to their interests. In addition to providing new content on basic information regarding how the GNSO is structured and how it operates, policy documents and information are now organized by both subject matter and project to help give users multiple ways to find needed information. Where appropriate, additional links are provided to connect the web site with the more collaborative community wiki spaces for working groups, drafting teams and other community efforts.

The changes from the old site design were part of the implementation of the GNSO Improvements effort – an independent review process approved by the Board several years ago. The final approach and design is the end result of substantial community input over a two-year period and we are proud of the effort to date.

I am hopeful you will find the new look, site architecture and content, to be a vast improvement over the old design, but this is just the first phase. The Staff is planning to add additional functionality, better graphics and further improvements over time – including now being able to move forward with efforts to provide web presence functionality for all GNSO Stakeholder Groups and Constituencies. We’ve already been getting good feedback on how to expand the functionality of the new design.

ICANN Staff plans to hold a small review session of the new site at the upcoming ICANN Public Meeting in Prague. Session attendees will get a quick overview of the new site and some hints and tips for finding all active GNSO and GNSO Council information. We also hope to hear more input on additional improvements that can be made over time. Please check the Prague schedule – http://prague44.icann.org/full-schedule – for more information about the session – http://prague44.icann.org/node/31619.
