Update on the 2007 ICANN Nominating Committee

This is an update on the 2007 ICANN Nominating Committee (Nom Com). The Nom Com received 93 Statements of Interest from candidates worldwide during an open nomination period that ran from 1 February 2007 to 18 May 2007. 12 candidates are female, 81 are male.

The Nom Com began its work in December 2006 at the ICANN Annual Meeting in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and is evaluating qualified candidates for the following key positions within ICANN:

  • 3 seats on the ICANN Board of Directors
  • 2 members to Generic Names Supporting Organization Council (GNSO)
  • 3 members of the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC)
    (from Africa, Latin America and Caribbean and Asia/Australia/Pacific regions)
  • 1 Country Code Names Support Organization Council (ccNSO) member

25 candidates are from North America, 23 candidates are from Europe, 23 are from Asia/Australia/Pacific, 13 are from Africa and 11 are from Latin America/Caribbean. Some candidates appear in more than one region due to dual citizenship.

70 candidates have declared a willingness to serve on the ICANN Board, 29 have declared a willingness to serve on the GNSO Council, 27 have declared a willingness to serve on the ALAC, and 24 have declared a willingness to serve on the ccNSO Council. Please note that some candidates have asked to be considered for more than one position.

The Nom Com will collect information and evaluate the candidates through mid July 2007, when it will hold a face-to-face meeting to select candidates for the nine open positions. Following the selection of candidates, the Nom Com will conduct due diligence through the end of September 2007. The selections will be announced on 2 October 2007.
