Buenos Aires, Argentina… The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) will convene its 53rd Public Meeting in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from June 22 to 25, 2015.
On Monday, June 22, you are invited to join ICANN President and CEO Fadi Chehadé and Board Chair Dr. Stephen D. Crocker, as well as Global Domains Division President Akram Atallah and Vice President of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) Rodrigo de la Parra for a meeting with local and international press, from 13:00-14:00 ART.
As you may already be aware, the United States government announced on March 14, 2014, its intent to transition stewardship of the IANA functions. Since then, the global Internet community has been hard at work developing several proposals to answer the question of how this transition will work. The success of this transition is critical to the future of Internet governance.
During this press meeting, Fadi, Steve, Akram and Rodrigo will discuss this transition, as well as a wide range of other issues, including the delegation of New generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs) and ICANN's continued efforts to globalize its operations.
Journalists who are unable to attend the Buenos Aires meeting are encouraged to participate remotely via a live web stream. An audio feed has also been established for those who simply wish to listen, but do not have any questions. The details for connecting are provided below.
An audio recording of the news conference will be posted to the press page of the ICANN web site (http://www.icann.org/en/news/press) after the event.

ICANN's mission is to ensure a stable, secure and unified global Internet. To reach another person on the Internet you have to type an address into your computer - a name or a number. That address has to be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN coordinates these unique identifiers across the world. Without that coordination we wouldn't have one global Internet. ICANN was formed in 1998. It is a not-for-profit public-benefit corporation with participants from all over the world dedicated to keeping the Internet secure, stable and interoperable. It promotes competition and develops policy on the Internet's unique identifiers. ICANN doesn't control content on the Internet. It cannot stop spam and it doesn't deal with access to the Internet. But through its coordination role of the Internet's naming system, it does have an important impact on the expansion and evolution of the Internet. For more information please visit: www.icann.org.
