ICANN to Host Webinar on Maintaining Top-Level Domain Health

11 August 2022

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is pleased to invite you to a webinar on 24 August 2022 at 18:00 UTC on the topic of maintaining top-level domain (TLD) health.

ICANN helps coordinate key technical services critical to the operation of the Internet's address book, the Domain Name System (DNS). TLDs require regular maintenance, both on technical and operational levels. Part of this maintenance uses best practices to operate the name server set for a TLD and update information associated with the TLD in the DNS root zone.

During the webinar, ICANN's Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) team will discuss good operational practices for maintaining the health of a TLD in the DNS root zone. This discussion includes keeping IANA records up to date, how to plan for periodic Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) key rollovers, how to submit change requests, and what to do in cases where a TLD change in the DNS root zone is urgent.

Additionally, ICANN's Vice President for Technical Engagement, Adiel Akplogan, will present a new initiative called the Knowledge-Sharing and Instantiating Norms for DNS and Naming Security (KINDNS). By collaborating with a global, multilingual community of technical experts, ICANN, through KINDNS, is developing a clear framework of operational best practices for DNS security with the objective of making the Internet safe, secure, and interoperable. You can subscribe to the KINDNS mailing list to join the conversation or email kindns-info@icann.org for more information.

This effort is part of the North American webinar series launched in April 2021. ICANN's stated mission is to foster a more robust DNS ecosystem. This is reflected in its 2021–2025 strategic goals, which emphasize active promotion of DNS ecosystem security and relevant best practices, particularly, the need to improve the security of the DNS and the adoption of global open standards and best practices.

The webinar will be presented in English. A recording of the webinar will be published here.

Please register in advance to receive details on how to join the webinar.

About ICANN

ICANN's mission is to help ensure a stable, secure, and unified global Internet. To reach another person on the Internet, you need to type an address – a name or a number – into your computer or other device. That address must be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN helps coordinate and support these unique identifiers across the world. ICANN was formed in 1998 as a nonprofit public benefit corporation with a community of participants from all over the world.
