Materials on .org Reassignment
On 31 December 2002, the previous registry agreement for the operation of the .org top-level domain (TLD) expired. Beginning in April 2002 the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) engaged in a process for the designation of a successor operator for .org. On 2 December 2002, ICANN entered into an agreement with Public Interest Registry designating it as the successor operator.
