About Registrar Accreditation

ICANN is a technical coordination body. Our primary objective is ensuring the stability of the Internet's system of assigned names and numbers. This objective is furthered by the requirement that every business desiring to become a registrar with direct access to ICANN-designated top-level domains must first become accredited for this purpose by ICANN.

The following links contain general information about the Shared Registration System ("SRS"), including its history, ICANN's role in it, and the role of ICANN-accredited registrars:

Contact ICANN-Accredited Registrars

The following links contain lists of accredited registrars and links to their websites. The first link contains a list of all accredited registrars, and the second list contains company descriptions and contact information:

If you have a problem with one of the registrars, you should first try to resolve it with them. If you can't resolve your complaint with the registrar, you should address it to private-sector agencies involved in addressing customer complaints or governmental consumer protection agencies. Although ICANN's limited technical mission does not include handling customer-service issues, we do monitor complaints about registrars to discern trends. If you'd like to submit a complaint about a registrar to ICANN, please send an email to accredit@icann.org. Please include your name, your company/organization (if any), your email address, your phone number (optional), the name of the registrar, the specific domain names involved (if any), and a brief description of your problem or complaint. ICANN will forward your complaint to the registrar for review and further handling.

Becoming an ICANN-Accredited Registrar

If you are interested in becoming an ICANN-accredited registrar, please review the following links for detailed information on the process, documents, qualifications, and financial considerations involved:

Information for Accredited Registrars about Adding TLDs

Accredited registrars can become accredited in all currently available gTLDs under contract with ICANN (see http://www.icann.org/registrars/accredited-list.html) by amending their Registrar Accreditation Agreement with an appendix for the TLD in which they wish to become accredited.

Any Accredited Registrar wishing to offer registrar services in additional gTLDs should contact ICANN's Registrar Accreditation department for further instructions.

Assignment (Transfer) of Registrar Accreditation

Pursuant to section 5.9 of the current Registrar Accreditation Agreement, ICANN-accredited registrars may apply to ICANN for permission to assign (transfer) their accreditation. Registrars seeking ICANN approval for the assignment of their accreditation should submit a completed and signed Application for Transfer of Registrar Accreditation.

ICANN Registrar Advisories

ICANN occasionally posts advisories and announcements concerning topics of interest to ICANN-Accredited Registrars. A list of Registrar Advisories is available at http://www.icann.org/registrars/registrar-advisories.htm.
