Trademark Issues to be Addressed Ahead of Internet Address Expansion

6 March 2009 | ICANN's 34th International public meeting in Mexico City has drawn to a close after the organization's Board of Directors approved the establishment by staff of an Implementation Recommendation Team (IRT) comprised of an internationally diverse group of people to develop and propose solutions to the over-arching issue of trademark protection in connection with the introduction of gTLDs.

Community Comment Invited on New GNSO Stakeholder Group Petitions and Charters

5 March 2009 | As part of the comprehensive GNSO Improvements effort, the ICANN Board directed community members to submit Petitions and Charters for the four new GNSO Stakeholder Groups (SGs). As of 5 March, charter petitions for the Registry SG, the Registrar SG, the Commercial SG and the Non-Commercial SG (NCSG) have been submitted to the Board for review and approval.

Community Comment Invited on Petition To Form A New GNSO CyberSafety Constituency

5 March 2009 | The ongoing GNSO Improvements process has created significant community interest in the formation of new GNSO constituencies and several groups have stepped forward to begin the process of forming a new GNSO constituency. The ICANN Board has now received its first formal petition - from the prospective CyberSafety Constituency.

5 March 2009 | The Board Committees have published their reports for the Mexico City meeting.

New gTLDs – Preliminary Reports on Competition and Pricing

4 March 2009 | An important element of ICANN's consideration of the introduction of new gTLDs is consumer benefit as well as pricing issues. ICANN commissioned independent third-party reports: "Preliminary Report Regarding Impact of New gTLDs on Consumer Welfare" and "Preliminary Analysis Regarding Price Caps for New gTLD Internet Registries."

Board Review: Public Comment Period to the WG Interim Report

3 March 2009 | ICANN appointed the Boston Consulting Group/Colin Carter & Associates to perform the external review of its Board of Directors.

ICANN's President and CEO Announces Departure

2 March 2009 | Founders and leaders of the Internet praised the achievements of Dr Paul Twomey, the President and Chief Executive Officer of ICANN, after learning that Twomey had advised ICANN's Board of Directors that he will not seek renewal of his contract and will move on from ICANN at the end of 2009.
