Bucharest, Romania, has been selected at the site for the June 2002 regular meeting of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). The meeting is scheduled for Monday, 24 June through Friday, 28 June, with an ICANN Public Forum to be held on Thursday, 27 June and the ICANN Board to meet on Friday, 28 June. The meeting will take place at the Bucharest-Marriott Hotel and will be coordinated by a local host committee including the National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics (ICI), the National Computer Network for Research and Development (RNC Romania), and ARtelecom.
According to ICANN President and CEO Stuart Lynn, "ICANN is delighted to be holding its first Eastern European meeting in Romania, one of the pioneering adopters of the Internet in this increasingly important region."
