Public Discussion on Domain Name Hijacking

18:30 – 19:30, Tuesday, 5 April 2005

In January panix.com was hijacked. ICANN cited poor practices by the gaining registrar and its reseller. The Security and Stability Advisory Committee is examining the overall system issues and is presenting preliminary thoughts and recommendations for discussion. In brief, the overall system has weaknesses at several points, and there a number of things that can be done to strengthen the protection and improve the response time when problems do arise.

The main presenters are:
Steve Crocker, Chair of SSAC
Ram Mohan, CTO of Afilias
Bruce Tonkin, CTO of MelbourneIT
