Thomas Roessler
Thomas Roessler joined the W3C Staff in November 2004 to work on security, privacy, and European policy issues. As Technology and Society Domain Leader, he has been part of W3C's global management team since 2009, and oversees W3C's work in the Semantic Web, eGovernment, Security, Privacy, and Web Services Activities.
Prior to joining W3C, Thomas worked at the University of Bonn on numerics of partial differential equations. In addition to learning about mathematics and physics, his time at Bonn university gave him the opportunity to encounter the Internet and, early in its history, the World Wide Web. As a side activity, he was the lead maintainer of the open source e-mail program mutt, and got involved in the world of online privacy and security, and in ICANN. Thomas has published and given talks on topics including anonymization technologies, legal questions of digital signatures, and online privacy. He holds a degree in mathematics. Today, he is a frequent speaker on Web security and privacy topics.
A long-time participant in ICANN, Thomas previously served as the Technical Liaison to the ICANN Board in 2009, and is the chairman of the Board of the World Wide Web Foundation (Delaware, US). Thomas has been selected to serve as the TLD Liaison beginning at the Annual General Meeting in Dakar in October 2011 through the AGM in 2012.
