Patrick L. Jones | Senior Manager of Continuity & Risk Management
Patrick is part of ICANN's Security Group. His current focus areas include supporting Security budget, strategic & operational planning, maintaining continuity & contingency plans under ICANN's Security, Stability and Resiliency program, tracking departmental risk management and mitigation efforts and implementing business continuity processes for ICANN. Patrick continues to serve as a point of contact for the Registry Services Evaluation Process and supports the IDN ccTLD Fast Track program. Patrick also participates in the IT Sector Coordinating Council on behalf of ICANN.
Patrick joined ICANN in March 2006 and was previously ICANN's Registry Liaison Manager from 2006 to late 2009. In that role, Patrick developed ICANN's gTLD Registry Continuity Plan, managed the process for the evaluation of new registry services, and supported the new gTLD and IDN ccTLD Fast Track processes. In 2006, Patrick coordinated with experts on the formation of the Registry Services Technical Evaluation Panel and the DNS Stability Panel for the IDN ccTLD Fast Track in September 2009. His efforts included periodic updates to ICANN's ccNSO, GNSO Council, SSAC and various constituencies, and presenting at ICANN's International Public Meetings. Patrick assisted gTLD registries with a variety of issues, and provided input for ICANN's policy development processes on behalf of the Services team.
Patrick also served as staff support to the 2007, 2008 and 2009 Nominating Committee. Since joining ICANN, Patrick has conducted a series of university outreach events on ICANN at the University of Lisboa, University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras, Loyola Law School (Los Angeles) and the University of Southern California.
Before ICANN, Patrick worked for nearly five years in a law firm in Washington DC, where he assisted with e-commerce issues, domain name protection and intellectual property enforcement for a variety of clients, including the International Olympic Committee and the American Red Cross. In addition, Patrick provided government relations and policy consulting on new TLDs. From 2001-2005, he maintained UDRPlaw.net, an informational website on domain name disputes. UDRPlaw.net was one of the first informational websites on the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy.
Patrick served as a law clerk in the Office of General Counsel to the National Collegiate Athletic Association in Indianapolis, Indiana. Patrick holds a law degree from Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis and is a 1996 graduate of Wabash College with a degree in Political Science (international relations specialization).
