Statement Concerning Schedule and Process for Consideration of Restructuring Proposal

To the ICANN community:
In response to my proposal that was discussed at the ICANN Board Retreat this past weekend and posted on the ICANN website, many of you have asked how and when the Board will consider the proposal. I cannot speak for the Board as to how and whether it might act, but I can assure you that it will most certainly be discussed in the Public Forum in Ghana. Although it will be discussed, the Board will not act on the proposal at that meeting but will be listening carefully to preliminary community feedback.
Many of you have suggested that you need time to digest the proposal to provide thoughtful feedback and advice. My thinking, therefore, is that the official comment period, should start after the Ghana meeting. A formal facility for providing comments will be announced at that time.
In the meantime, however, those of you who wish to comment may do so using the usual web-based public comment mechanism. Others of you may wish to send e-mail to comment-reform@icann.org.
Many of you have told me that you would like to understand more about the reasoning behind the proposal. I would, of course, be pleased to meet or talk with any ICANN constituent organization that wishes to hear more about what I have in mind and the underlying rationale – either in Accra or on some other occasion. I will do my best to accommodate within the limits of possible scheduling, or find some other alternative. Please e-mail me at lynn@icann.org.
