2 April 2009

MARINA DEL REY, Calif.: Now is the time to apply to become one of the global leadership volunteers who help the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers coordinate the polices and process that shape the future of the Internet.

The deadline for applications through the Nominating Committee for leadership positions on the Board, At Large Advisory Committee, Country Code Names Supporting Organization and Generic Names Supporting Organization is Wednesday, 15 April 2009.

"We have received an impressive range of statements of interest from all over the world. People who want to be part of the decision-making process for tomorrow's Internet have applied, with Asia and Europe especially well represented this year," said Tricia Drakes, Chair of the Nominating Committee and former member of ICANN's Board of Directors. "This year's Nominating Committee has really focused on outreach and accessibility, running events at ICANN's Mexico City meeting, and we really hope to see more applications from Latin America and the Caribbean before the deadline on 15 April."

The Nominating Committee is independent of ICANN and is tasked with searching the world for experienced individuals to fill key positions on ICANN's Board and its Supporting Organizations and Advisory Committees. The following positions are being filled this year:
